River, Trees, and Mountains

Still more cherry trees. On Friday, the students set out to pick up garbage along the roads in the area as a community service. Some students told me about a bridge with a great view just off of the main road to school. On my way home, I stopped by and took a few pictures. I go over three bridges on the way to school. All cross rivers with many sluice gates for the acres and acres of rice fields. When I see this river, not only do I enjoy the natural beauty, I perceive the source of many livelihoods and the span of generations of farmers.

Late Afternoon

We went to the park one more time last night. Most of the shops were already folded up and gone, others were packing. School is at a little higher elevation so the Cherry trees were at peak blossom yesterday instead of last weekend. Next week we head up higher into the mountains and may get a chance for a last show.

Beauty and Impermanence

We went to the Cherry Blossom Festival last weekend. The weather cooperated for two days, then back to April rain and chill. There are thousands of cherry trees around town. The blooms in April are awesome. I have decided that the cherry is visually and metaphorically the perfect flowering tree.
